Members of the Rutgers Community,
The Guide to Returning to Rutgers has been updated to reflect the frequently changing public health guidelines. The guide is a living document that will continue to evolve as we develop our path forward in a full repopulation of our university. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the details contained in the guide so that we can be assured of a safe return.
Among the most recent changes:
Recreation Centers
Effective August 2, 2021, recreation centers at Rutgers–New Brunswick and Rutgers–Camden will reopen to faculty and staff; the center at Rutgers–Newark will remain open only to students until further notice. Recreation centers may have registration and occupancy rules applicable to their specific location, and patrons should familiarize themselves with those. Unvaccinated faculty and staff who choose to use the recreation centers may be placing themselves at higher risk than vaccinated employees due to the nature of the activities that occur during exercise.
Events
There are significant changes to the protocols guiding events. These include, but are not limited to, adjustments to both indoor and outdoor types, social distancing, face coverings, capacity, and rentals. Those responsible for planning events should familiarize themselves with the new guidelines at https://ipo.rutgers.edu/events.
Vaccinations
Under the Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, Policy Number 100.3.1, the university is mandating the vaccine for all health care personnel and all Rutgers University public safety personnel at all locations, regardless of whether they have a routine presence in patient care areas or have routine contact with patients. If you have questions about whether this policy applies to you, please visit https://policies.rutgers.edu/sites/default/files/100-3-1-current.pdf.
The University continues to urge all employees to get vaccinated and upload their vaccination cards to the portal. The data clearly demonstrates the safety and efficacy of vaccination, as well as the protection it affords against serious hospitalizations and death. All employees who upload or have already uploaded their cards will be entered in a University Human Resources drawing.
Details of the above can be found in the updated guide, the event’s webpage, and in the policy.
Stay safe,
Antonio M. Calcado
